Heat Pump Week Showcases the Growing Role of Heat Pumps in Sustainable Homes

April 27, 2026

Heat Pump Week is a national awareness initiative highlighting how heat pump technology supports energy efficiency and lower‑carbon homes. Bringing together manufacturers, educators, contractors, and community organizations, the week focuses on workforce training and real‑world applications that demonstrate how heat pumps are being adopted across the U.S.

During this year’s Heat Pump Week, Rheem® participated in events and programs that emphasized education, community impact, and the expanding role of heat pumps in residential heating, cooling, and water heating.

Workforce Training and Education in California

As part of Heat Pump Week activities, Rheem supported a hands‑on training event at the Center for Employment Training (CET) in San Jose, held in partnership with the California Heat Pump Partnership. In addition to Rheem’s team of trainers and technical experts, Joao Escorio — a master plumber and social media influencer known as @joaotheplumber — was on hand to provide students with real‑world advice about the trade and to illustrate how dedication and hard work can lead to a successful career.

Workforce development is increasingly critical as demand grows for heat pump technology. Rheem is a proud partner of training programs like these, which help prepare future HVAC technicians and plumbers to install and maintain high‑efficiency heat pump equipment.

Community Participation

In addition to education efforts, Rheem contributed to community‑level, grass roots adoption with the donation of ProTerra® hybrid electric heat pump water heaters and Fujitsu heat pump mini‑split air systems to two homes in Richmond, California.

These installations replaced conventional gas systems with highly efficient electric alternatives, helping homeowners improve comfort while reducing energy use. Programs like Heat Pump Week demonstrate how community / corporate partnerships can make heat pump adoption more accessible, particularly in communities that may face financial or structural barriers to adoption.

A Broad Leadership Role in Heat Pump Technology

Rheem’s involvement reflects its broader position in the market as one of the few manufacturers producing heat pumps for both space heating and cooling as well as water heating. This dual focus supports a more integrated, whole‑home approach to heat pump technology in consumer households.

Heat pumps are the most efficient ways to heat water and condition indoor spaces. That efficiency, combined with strong performance, is why they are becoming a foundational element of modern home design.

Performance, Cost, and Long‑Term Value

While upfront cost remains a consideration, heat pump systems can offer meaningful long‑term savings through reduced energy consumption. Incentives from utilities and local programs can further improve affordability, helping shorten payback periods for homeowners.

Reliability remains a key factor in adoption, and modern heat pump systems are engineered to deliver consistent performance while supporting long‑term sustainability goals.

Looking Ahead

Heat Pump Week highlights how education, workforce training, and community‑based programs are accelerating the transition to efficient heat pumps, as Rheem continues to play a leadership role in shaping how heat pump technology is deployed in the built environment.
