Rheem-Ruud Commercial Storage Tanks Offers Space-Saving, "Stubby" Design.

January 15, 2009

The only 100-gal. short storage tank on the market, the Rheem-Ruud ST100 can support a top-mounted boiler or be stacked in a parallel manifold configuration.

The new Rheem-Ruud 100-gallon commercial storage tank features a space-saving,  “stubby” design that fits comfortably through small doorways and into tight spaces, making it ideal for boiler-room environments. Measuring only 46 inches high and just over 32 inches wide, the vertical ST100 tank is designed to work in tandem with other Rheem-Ruud commercial water heating equipment to handle applications demanding large quantities of hot water in short periods.

The tank’s smooth, flat top is reinforced with an internal cross beam, permitting the surface to be used to support a boiler mounted on top of the unit. Up to two ST100 units can be stacked adjacent to a boiler, thereby doubling capacity without requiring any additional floor space.

“Created especially for the boiler industry, the new ‘Stubby’ is truly unique among storage tanks,” says Rheem Water Heating product manager Tommy Olsen. “That’s because there’s no other 100-gallon short storage tank on the market. Whether installed individually or in parallel manifold, this tank can provide 80% draw capability without a major temperature decrease in single-temperature applications.”

Other key features include:
Easier installation: Two-inch openings for circulating lines and the hot-water outlet are conveniently positioned on either side of the unit to enhance installation flexibility. The tank also has additional 3/4-inch NPT openings for a drain valve and temperature control, as well as a 1-inch NPT opening for a temperature and pressure relief valve.

Longer tank life: Rheem-Ruud’s proprietary steel formulation, featuring two coats of high-temperature porcelain enamel, maximizes resistance to corrosion, resulting in longer tank life and a five-year limited warranty against leaks. In addition, the tank is equipped with triple-anode protection – side-mounted for easier access.

Efficient, cost-saving design: Two inches of rigid polyurethane foam insulation slow heat loss through the tank walls, helping to reduce operating costs. The patented Rheem-Ruud process of injecting foam into the insulating cavity enhances the durability and toughness of the powder-coated steel outer jacket.

ASME construction is an option for the ST100 and meets or exceeds thermal efficiency and standby loss requirements of current ASHRAE standards, as stipulated by the federally mandated Energy Policy Act (EPact). Total shipping weight is 475 pounds.
