On January 1, 2023, the 45L Tax Credit was revised to provide up to a $5,000 tax credit for most certified DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH), including eligible manufactured homes.
A Rheem ® Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heater could provide half of the 18-point requirement for ZERH certification.

Participating in the Department of Energy’s Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program offers big incentives to manufactured home builders.

Creating energy efficient homes requires effort, the right partners and the right products.
From engineers and plumbers, to product managers and account leads, at Rheem, we have a team of experts to help you navigate this program and select the right water heater to maximize points.
Installing a heat pump water heater is a critical component for meeting the energy-saving requirements of the ZERH program. Depending on climate zone, a Rheem Hybrid Electric Heat Pump Water Heater could earn up to 13 of the 18 points needed to quality for tax credit.

Unlike standard electric water heaters, Rheem ® Hybrid Heat Pump Water Heaters draw energy from surrounding air to heat water—reducing annual energy costs and saving homeowners hundreds of dollars on utility bills.
Hybrid heat pumps provide up 4X the efficiency of a standard water heate 2 — producing fewer greenhouse gases.
1 Based on $0.14 kW per hour as stated on the EnergyGuide label. Costs vary based on on state and kW / h.
2 Based on the comparison of a 50-gallon Rheem Hybrid Electric model to a standard electric water heater of like capacity with minimum efficiency.
Reach 18 points to qualify for ZERH and a $5,000 tax credit

Points for ZERH qualification depend on the zone where your houses reside. See map for climate zone boundaries.
* Climate Zone boundaries as established by the Energy Conservation Standards for Manufactured Homes.

Department of Energy (DOE) Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) is a high-performance home that is so energy efficient that a renewable energy system could offset most or all the home’s annual energy use. Each home meets rigorous efficiency and performance criteria and are verified by a qualified third-party as part of the certification process.
Most types of new homes in the U.S. are eligible to participate, and certified homes are eligible to receive the Federal 45L Tax Credit – up to $5,000 per home, until 2032.
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) amended Internal Revenue Code Section 45L to provide eligible home builders with a business tax credit of up to $5,000 for eligible newly constructed homes that meet applicable ENERGY STAR home program or DOE Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program requirements.
The ENERGY STAR Manufactured New Homes (MH) program requirements apply to manufactured homes, which are defined as homes built in a factory and are subject to the federal Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards (commonly referred to as the HUD Code).
* Home builds must meet the Mandatory Efficiency Requirements in DOE ZERH program documentation, Exhibit 1, to earn points for energy efficiency measurements listed below and achieve a total of at least 18 (eighteen) points for certification.
