Rheem Prestige Series Air Conditioning Unit Recognized as an ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient Product .

2011-08-18

Initiative helps educate Americans on the most efficient ENERGY STAR-qualified products; Rheem is one of the first HVAC brands on the inaugural list

ATLANTA (AUGUST 18, 2011) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently unveiled a new, prestigious honor: the ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient designation. The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC air conditioning unit has earned the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation for 2011. This technologically advanced unit is the company’s most efficient air conditioning offering to-date, providing homeowners with operational savings as well as supreme comfort and reliability.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient effort will help American consumers quickly identify the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR designation in particular product categories including heating and cooling equipment, clothes washers, televisions and refrigerator-freezers.

“Heating and cooling costs the average homeowner about $1,000 a year—nearly half the home's total energy bill (source: U.S. Department of Energy), so the fact that the EPA is featuring heating and cooling products as part of its ENERGY STAR Most Efficient initiative is significant,” said Nitish Singh, director of marketing and product management, Rheem Air Conditioning Division. “This initiative can help consumers better understand the benefits of selecting high efficiency heating and cooling systems, and we’re honored that our Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit is one of the first to have been recognized on the inaugural list of Most Efficient ENERGY STAR qualified products.”

The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit achieves efficiencies up to 19.5 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). SEER is used to express the efficiency of an air conditioning unit; the higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient program noted that qualifying packaged central air conditioners must achieve efficiencies greater than greater than 16 SEER.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria also specified that qualifying air conditioning units must include advanced communications and diagnostics. The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit features the advanced Comfort Control2 System (CC2S) as a standard feature. Exclusive to Rheem, CC2S is a unique controls system and communicating thermostat that allows homeowners to access intuitive, advanced features such as humidity control and service. For instance, the CC2S Active Protection™ feature with homeowner “Call for Service” notification sends an alert to the thermostat if a service issue arises, which notifies the homeowner so s/he can put in a call to the contractor.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation is designed to recognize and advance the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR label. The goal of ENERGY STAR Most Efficient effort is to encourage a faster introduction of new, more energy efficient products into the market by targeting early adopters.

“This new label will help Americans save money and cut pollution by quickly pointing them to the best ENERGY STAR products have to offer. Highlighting ENERGY STAR’s Most Efficient products is a great way to encourage the strides in innovation that bring even more energy and money saving choices to our stores," said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “We know American consumers are eager to make purchases that save them money on their utility bills and reduce the pollution in the air we breathe, and these labels will help them identify the best ways to find those purchases.”
