Celebrate World Environment Day with Rheem.

June 2, 2008

World Environment Day is June 5. This year’s theme is CO2: Kick the Habit! The average person produces 7 1/2 tons of carbon emissions a year. You can calculate your personal carbon emissions using the impact calculator found here.

The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) that you emit each year can be reduced by using public transportation, turning off lights and unplugging appliances that aren’t in use. Actions you can take with your Rheem home heating and cooling system include:

  • Set your thermostat up two degrees in summer and down two degrees in winter. This small adjustment can save almost 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.
  • Clean or replace filters on your furnace or air conditioner. This can save 350 pounds of carbon a year.
  • Install a programmable thermostat, which saves not only energy, but also money.
  • You can save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide a year by wrapping your heater in an insulated blanket.
  • Make sure that the thermostat on your heater is set no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This simple action can save 550 pounds of carbon dioxide a year.
