October 25, 2023 is the second annual Heat Pump Water Heater Day. Celebrate with us! The Advanced Water Heating Initiative (AWHI) is bringing together manufacturers, installers, advocates, homebuilders and heat pump water heater (HPWH) owners to spread awareness about this game-changer in the world of energy efficiency. We’ve planned an entire day dedicated to heat pump water heater education. We’ll discuss HPWHs and their potential to help impact the environment through a reduction in energy usage and carbon emissions.
Join us in celebrating Energy Efficiency Day. This time of year, governments, organizations, manufacturers and utilities come together to promote energy savings and carbon emission reduction. To fully engage in this initiative, start by understanding what makes an appliance energy efficient. This knowledge will help you understand how energy efficiency benefits homes and businesses to make a positive impact on our environment!
Demystifying Uniform Energy Factor (UEF)
Let’s start by understanding water heater efficiency ratings.
When savings are top of mind, there is a new option for you to look into now. The brand-new Rheem® ProTerra™ Hybrid Electric Water Heater saves you money as soon as it’s installed with a tax credit, local utility rebates and energy cost savings.
As a homeowner, you may have noticed yellow EnergyGuide labels on your water heater and appliances. What does the information on the label mean and why is it there?
Why the EnergyGuide Label Is Important
In order to help consumers comparison shop products, the Federal Trade Commission requires manufacturers to place EnergyGuide labels on appliances. The label estimates a residential appliance’s yearly energy cost and how it compares to similar models.
Across the country, local utilities and incentive programs offer rebates and credits for switching to Heat Pump Water Heaters (HPWHs). The goal is for homeowners to adopt high efficiency HPWHs to reduce energy demand, lower carbon emissions and help utility companies provide a reliable energy supply.
Why Are There Rebates and Incentives for Heat Pump Water Heaters?
Many states and cities have set aggressive carbon emission reduction targets. For example, California’s target is to reach net zero or carbon neutrality by 2045.
With kids going back to school, anything we can do to make our night routine easier is definitely welcome. Between sports games, dance lessons, homework, dinner and bath time, you’re surely hoping to find ways to bring some ease. With everyone needing to shower to get ready for bed, use the smart features on your water heater to make sure everyone has a hot shower.

Why ENERGY STAR?
Since 1992, when the EPA first introduced the ENERGY STAR® label, the program has expanded to more than 70 product categories including heat pump water heaters (also commonly referred to as “electric hybrid water heaters”) and tankless condensing water heaters. Today, ENERGY STAR is now widely recognized as the simple choice for energy efficiency. According to recent surveys, 91% of households recognize the ENERGY STAR brand and most understand the intent of the ENERGY STAR label on their products.
There are a lot of ways that you can go green, but with an energy-efficient water heater, the savings really add up. You’ll be saving energy, money and the environment so you can rest assured that making the switch was worth it.
