RACE INFO: The Zippo 200 a WGI begins at 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, August 3, 2019. The race will be broadcast live on NBC, Sirius XM 90, and MRN Radio.

Turning Left and Right: Christopher Bell and the No. 20 Rheem team head to Watkins Glen International (WGI) this weekend for the Zippo 200 and their first of three road course races in the month of August. Bell will be making his second-career start at the historic road course this weekend. In 2018. Bell qualified 11th and worked his way up inside the top five. A penalty on a green flag pit stop cost Bell track position, but he raced his way back through the field to finish ninth.

August is a month of road racing for us and I’m ready to head to Watkins Glen and see what we’ve got.

Iowa Recap: Bell dominated at Iowa Speedway, but came up one spot short as the checkered flag waved. Bell qualified on the pole and led 234 of the 250 laps raced, but with six laps remaining fresher tires prevailed, resulting in a second-place finish.

Honoring Sue Karli: The No. 20 Rheem Supra took on a special look last weekend in Iowa, honoring Sue Karli, a founding member for the Rheem Racing program and a familiar and friendly face in the NASCAR garage to all. The hood and TV panel paid tribute to Sue with her initials in a purple heart, her favorite color and the color representative of pancreatic cancer awareness. This weekend the No. 20 will carry a purple heart with her initials on the c-post and will continue to for the rest of the 2019 season.

Points Update: Following Iowa, Bell sits second in the regular-season standings, but leads the way in Playoff Points with 38.

Joe Gibbs Racing at The Glen: JGR has 39 NXS starts at WGI and has earned one win, 14 top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. The championship-winning organization is looking for its first pole award but has an average start of 12.1 and an average finish of 12.4.

Christopher Bell: “Last year we didn’t get any practice due to the weather and it was my first time at Watkins Glen. Road racing has been tough for me, I just need to go there and get some experience. August is a month of road racing for us and I’m ready to head to Watkins Glen and see what we’ve got.”
