The Duel victory Thursday night means Christopher Bell and the #20 team started P4 for the Daytona 500 on Sunday.

The Daytona 500 is unique in many ways, one being how the starting lineup is determined. Teams run a traditional qualifying lap on Wednesday, this locks in the front row (1st & 2nd place). For the remaining starting positions, there are two 60-lap Duel’s to determine the starting lineup.

In addition to winning the Duel,

One day delayed, Feb. 19 marked the start of the 2024 NASCAR Season with the running of the Great American Race, the Daytona 500.

Fresh off his Duel win on Thursday, Christopher and the #20 team started the race in the 4th position. Early in the race (Lap 5), contact behind the #20 team triggered a caution flag, leading to select teams choosing to pit and refuel. Instead, Bell elected to maintain his track position and stay out in front for the majority of the first stage,

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-25)

• Christopher Bell started 9th Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway to kick off the doubleheader race weekend at the “Tricky Triangle.”
• Crew chief Adam Stevens attempted some pit strategy and pitted with three laps remaining in the stage for four tires, fuel and adjustments.  Bell was passed by the leader just before the end of the stage and closed out the stage 37th,

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-20)

• Christopher Bell started 20th at Sonoma.
• On lap four, Bell hit pit road due to a fuel pressure issue. The team was able to identify why he had no fuel pressure and reset the computer on Bell’s Rheem Toyota.
• He lost one lap due to the stop but was able to get back on the lead lap after the competition caution on lap ten.

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-90)

• Sunday’s throwback race at Darlington was run on Mother’s Day with Christopher Bell rolling off 22nd.
• A tight race car to begin with turned into a loose one as laps ticked off. 
• A competition caution allowed the 20 team to make adjustments when Bell came in to pit for four tires and fuel with the #20 Rheem Toyota Camry restarting 15th.

Bell started 3rd and finished 20th in the Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday, February 28th, 2021.

Christopher Bell will drive the No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry for Instacart 500 at Phoenix Raceway. The race begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 14, 2021. The race will be broadcast live on FOX, Sirius XM 90, and MRN Radio.
