This position is responsible for tooling and related processes within the multi-plant AC Division. The Division Tooling Engineer manages all new tooling projects and works closely with internal and external customers to ensure that tooling meets quality, cost, timing and specification requirements. The Division Tooling Engineer is also responsible for the on-going maintenance and continuous improvement of the Rheem Tooling Specification, which is communicated to all potential tooling vendors. Position is also responsible for the efficient implementation of engineering changes to existing tooling and provides manufacturability feedback to Research and Development design teams.
A Bachelor of Science degree in a related Engineering field with ten or more years Tool and Die experience in an appliance related industry is required. Skilled in AutoCad, ProE or equivalent CAD tools as well as diagnosing tooling and equipment problems also required. A working knowledge of machine controls and automation and sound tool making practice and die protection along with a familiarity with Lean Manufacturing Tools such as VSM, TPM, error-proofing, set-up reduction and continuous flow/pull systems is needed. Knowledge of federal safety standards as related to tooling and machines is mandatory. Knowledgeable of various manufacturing processes used in a sheet metal fabrication environment including progressive, transfer and draw tooling as well as CNC and laser fabrication also needed. Experience with equipment and processes unique to HVAC industry including fin dies, fin presses, expanders, copper fabrication, etc., required.
